Photos

They're like a pie made of wow. There should be previews at the top of the page and you can click the link to my Flickr page to see them proper big.

Internet should be installed at our place this Friday, then I can start updating properly without having to dig holes under my desk and smuggle bandwidth in the legs of my pants.

In short: everything is great at the moment but I'll be very glad when I've finished my millions of self introductions to each class. Gather round children, I'll tell you all about Cottesloe Beach and glare at my watch every few minutes.

  1. Hey man!

Good to hear from you again. My respect/hetero-heart goes out to you dealing with those awkward moments in the classroom and for getting through countless introductions. Are you finding out what your 'job' is this week? Must be a bit painful, but that's any new job remember. I would imagine you have forgotten what that feels like! (I'm not looking forward to when I have to do it again!). Lucky the Bath is way to small to propoerly relax in :) It's what you call in Yoga "gaining englightment and joy through discipline" :) There's probably some hindu words for it probably but I'll learn them later..

Great shots of the apartment! Definately looks better than your last one and how the hell did Lisa find curtins so quickly :) I guess it is Japan :) ALSO how the hell did you put up that bar up in your bedroom there's no Bunnings in Japan! Or IS THERE!?

You gotta come mudding when you get your internet :) All my shit is decaying and im struggling along while people are shouting 'huma sword, shield of fuckyeah for trade on neck-wearable con'.

    Chin's up!
    Dave.

    P.S.
Where did you load that Sturdy?

  2. Yeah I think you're right. The start of the year would have been pretty stressful even if I was in Perth so I'm not that much worse off in the blood pressure stakes.

Still not 100% on my job - I seem to have started pretty grandly at one of the schools but the other one I'm still just kind of sitting around (which is absolutely fine by me, gives me a chance to try and get my head on straight). The Board of Education is going to be an interesting one, we'll have to see how that develops. If nothing else, I think as long as I wear a suit and call the right people the right titles, I'll be getting a glowing report. They love a bit of "how high?" to go with their "jump".

I think we've nailed the bath - rather than flaying our skin off with the shower head (which randomly switches from "a bit too cold" to "centre of the earth"), we just fill up the tub with the water which averages out to quite nice. We then sit cross legged and lean right back in a pose that would probably be called the "narcoleptic primary school kid". Washing ensues.

There are millions of places to buy curtains which is good because we were hanging up mattress covers and stuff over the windows to keep the light out and the heat in for the first few nights. It was a bit of a pain to drag them up the mountain but then we discovered that one of the big department stores here (and probably all the others) delivers for free if you spend more than 5000 yen (60 bucks or something). So we got them to deliver a whole bunch of stuff - couple of freestanding shelves, a coffee table, some chairs etc. I did kind of wonder why you never see Japanese people carrying furniture around - deliveries must just kind of be a way of life and they kick arse at them.

The bar is just an extendy one that you wind out against the walls really tight and it holds itself up with a couple of rubber feet. It fell down the first time we tried but then I hulked out and got it really tight. It does kind of make me wonder why they don't just bang a couple of nails into the wall, but that's Japan for you. Strange (universally accepted) solutions to strange problems (that everybody seems to have). "Shit! I don't have any hanging space! I better nip down to just about any bloody shop and buy a 2.8 metre extendable pole that fits perfectly!"

    ...ahem...
    ok.
    banditcamp.

Lots of stuff coming up soon, snowboarding etc if I can get the leave sorted out quick enough. There should be some cracking photos on the way. Not sure if I should have a day as my "update" day, or if I should just post holus bolus. Probably better to have decent big posts rather than dribs and drabs.

Nice to hear from ya - talk soon.

Comment away, I'd love to hear from you! Try not to swear etc. though - my mum is probably reading this.
